This lightweight UDP take a huge load off the engine freeing up more horsepower to drive the wheels, especially with power steering and air conditioning. You can feel the difference just bolting it on, and it is an easy installation. Good for a noticable increase in power and acceleration, and substantial improvement in mileage, depending upon how you drive and the accessories (A/C, P/S, Alt. ect.) being driven by the engine on your vehicle.

These gains are due to a reduction in the amount of power taken from the engine to drive the air conditioner, alternator, power steering pump and anything else turned by the serpentine belt. This pulley is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum and weighs 1lb-7oz. which is a full 3lbs. less than the stock pulley. Fits all 91-up Ford Escort 1.9L & 2.0L CVH / SEFI / SPI engines.

Note: You will need a 3-1/2" shorter 6-rib serpentine drive belt available at any local auto parts store.

 Note: DOES NOT FIT THE ZETEC OR DURATEC DOHC ENGINES. The alternator will not charge fully under approximately 1,000 - 1,500 rpm. We have used this type underdrive pulley on daily drivers even with automatic transmissions for years with no problems. Usually, the percentage of time the car is actually idling is very low and as soon as you accelerate, the alternator begins charging normally. Unless you sit in traffic with an automatic transmission in gear and the headlights on for long periods of time, you should never have a charging problem with this pulley.

The required belt size may vary up to +/- 1/2" because of manufacturing tolerances in the vehicle. The belt should be tight when going on as long as long as it fits. Don't try stretching it. If it goes on with very much clearance between  any of the pulleys and the belt with the tensioner fully retracted, then it is probably too loose and you should opt for the next smaller size Belts are usually available in 1/2" increments and sometimes less depending upon the size.
